OpenApps Cards

Free alternative to Quizlet

Free flashcards, with Learn and Test unlimited.

Paste your notes and get a study set in seconds. Study it with Flashcards, Learn, Test, Match and spaced repetition review. Nothing is held back for a paid plan.

  • Every study mode, as often as you like
  • No sign-up and no ads
  • Share a study link with your class

How it works

  1. Make a set

Type terms and definitions, paste a list from your notes or a spreadsheet, or import a CSV. Up to 2,000 cards in a set.

  2. Study your way

Flip flashcards, let Learn quiz you until you know every card, take a practice test, race the clock in Match, or review what is due today.

  3. Share the link

Send the study link to your class or study group. They can study it and make their own copy. Only you can edit it.

Every study mode, free

  • Flashcards

Tap to flip. Mark each card "Know it" or "Still learning", or swipe on your phone. Shuffle, star the hard ones, start with the definition.

  • Learn

Multiple choice first, then typed answers, until every card is mastered. Missed cards come back. Small typos count, and Cards tells you.

  • Test

A practice test with true or false, multiple choice, written and matching questions. Get a score and see every answer. Take as many as you like.

  • Match

Match terms to definitions against the clock. A wrong pair adds a second. Beat your best time.

  • Review

Spaced repetition: each card comes back right before you would forget it, with up to 20 new cards a day. Again, Hard, Good or Easy sets the next date.

  • Read aloud

Pick a language for each side and your device reads terms and definitions aloud with its own voices. Handy for vocabulary.

Free, with no catch

Studying for a test should not stop at a paywall. Cards is free because flashcards are small text, your browser does the studying, and OpenApps pays for the rest.

For AI assistants

Your assistant can make the flashcards.

Cards has a public API with no key and no account. Give your assistant your lecture notes and it can make a study set, then hand you the study link to share and the private edit link to keep.

Full reference: /llms.txt and /openapi.json. A set's id works like its study link: anyone with it can study the set. Changes need the owner key.

Questions

Is Cards really free?
Yes. Every study mode is free with no limit on sets, cards, rounds or tests. There is no paid plan and no ads. Sets are small text, so they cost almost nothing to keep, and OpenApps pays for it.
Is this a free Quizlet alternative with Learn and Test?
Yes. Cards has Flashcards, Learn, Test and Match like Quizlet, plus spaced repetition review. Quizlet's free plan limits Learn rounds and practice tests, as reported in 2026. In Cards they are unlimited.
How is it different from Anki?
Anki is free on desktop, Android and the web, and very powerful, but it takes time to learn, and AnkiMobile on iPhone is a one-time $24.99 as reported in 2026. Cards does spaced repetition too, works the same on every phone and computer, and also has Learn, Test and Match. You can download any set as CSV, which Anki can import.
Do I need an account?
No. Make a set and start studying. Your sets and progress are saved in your browser and a guest account. To have them on your other devices, sign in with your email and Cards copies them over.
How do I share a set?
Every set has a study link. Anyone with it can study the set and make their own copy, but not change it. You also get a private edit link, so you can edit the set from any device. Sets are not listed anywhere: only people with the link can find them.
Can I import my cards from Quizlet or a spreadsheet?
Yes. Paste a list with a tab, comma or dash between each term and definition and you see a live preview, or import a CSV file. A set can hold up to 2,000 cards.
What does Cards not do?
Cards holds text only: no images or audio files on cards yet. It has no public library of other people's sets, no classes for teachers and no AI that writes cards inside the app. Your own AI assistant can make sets for you through the free API.
Can my AI assistant make flashcards for me?
Yes. Cards has a public HTTP API with no key. An assistant can turn your lecture notes into a study set and give you the study link and your private edit link. See llms.txt.
